Beachcomber Walk Review In Sea Isle City New Jersey Fun Stuff !

If you want to learn a lot of fun things about the beaches of Sea Isle City, consider doing a beachcomber walk.

Beachcomber walks are geared for people of all ages and especially cater to young children but even the most seasoned adult should be able to learn something.

There isn't much walking to be done at the beachcomber walk in Sea Isle City, New Jersey so don't expect a hike of any kind. Bring your bathing suit or something comfortable to wear on a hot beach and simply enjoy the experience.

Beachcomber walks start fairly promptly so get there in time. I attended the beach comber walk on 29th street two years in a row. If you want to know the schedule for the current summer, walk to the end of the promenade at 29th street and there will be a sign posted that will give you a schedule (I posted a picture of the sign at the top of this post).

Basically, you will show up (bring kids, they'll like it) and for a very small fee (just a couple bucks) you'll get to spend time with a beach naturalist that will tell you a bit about the ocean and the various sea life you'll see along the beach.

About fifty people showed up for the beachcomber walk each time I went so don't be afraid of being the only one there. They broke us up into groups. I'd say 5 groups of 10 and we each got to spend time with our 'own' naturalist.

I thought is was very informative and left with a better understanding of all the shells and wildlife that I had taken for granted for so long.  For example, why is New Jersey oceans so 'dirty'?  Well, it turns out they are not dirty at all. The reason the water appears so cloudy is that it is is rich and fertile and abundant with tiny ocean life.  All this time I thought is was, well, dirty, but it isn't. Just because an ocean isn't as clear as the Bahamas, doesn't mean it is filthy.  Interesting stuff.

At one point the naturalist has everyone walk around and collect various things along the beach and bring it back, then they tell you all about it. This really made the event much more interactive, plus they give you a little bucket, which is nice too.

The pros of the beachcomber walk:

Very friendly and laid back

Very inexpensive

Very interesting

Great for families with  young kids.

The Cons:

The part where we broke up and collected beach stuff took a little too long but shorten this a a bit and it would be perfect.

Check it out sometime

When Can I Rollerblade on Sea Isle City Promenade

If you enjoy rollerblading the Sea Isle City promenade is very flat and very smooth, which makes it ideal for beginner to intermediate level rollerbladers.  You are allowed skate on your rollerblades on the Sea Isle City promenade within certain times of the day.

My first advise is to always double check the signs posted along the promenade  in Sea Isle for the most up to date rollerblading times.  This post and this website are not 'official' Sea Isle rules and regulations. This site is not monitored by Sea Isle City law enforcement so always be sure to check current rules and regulations before slapping the blades on and going roller blading in Sea Isle.

That said, at least as of the summer of 2011 (subject to change) you can roller blade on the Sea Isle City promenade from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm on Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 5:00 pm to Noon.

I hope that helps.  Look for those signs in case things change when you visit Sea Isle City, New Jersey.

When Can I Skate My Skateboard on Sea Isle City's Promenade

OK... I'll have to start this post off by saying this website is NOT the official rules and regulations website for Sea Isle City.  That said, as of 2011, this will answer the question as to when you can ride your skateboard on the Promenade in Sea Isle City, New Jersey.

Skateboarders are welcome in Sea Isle but they are asked to be courteous and not engaged in skating that is dangerous to the skater or to others.

If you want to know when you can ride your skateboard on the" boardwalk " in Sea Isle.  Look for the blue signs posted along the promenade. These will have the official, updated regulations.

As of 2011 (subject to change each year thereafter), you are allowed to skate on the " boardwalk " from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday Through Friday and 5:00 AM through Noon on Saturday and Sunday.

I hope that helps.  As always, check with local authorities or at least look at the sign to be sure you are up to date with current skateboard rules in Sea Isle City, New Jersey (don't take my world for it :-)

When Can I Ride My Bike on The Sea Isle City Promenade

There is nothing like riding a bike on the Sea Isle City, New Jersey promenade. Sea Isle's promenade has a very smooth, flat concrete surface that is great for taking a bike out for a nice relaxing ride along the beach.

If you want to know when you can ride your bike along Sea Isle City's promenade, the first bit of advise I'll offer is to look for one of the signs pictured above.  These signs dot the sides of the promenade and will offer you the most up to date regulations.  The sign I have pictured above is from 2011 so the rules, could change from year to year.  Don't trust this article year after year as I might not have it updated (please send me an email or comment if I need to make a change) and I'd cry for days and days if you got in trouble or were disappointed based on this information.

That said, you can ride your bicycle on Sea Isle's promenade on Monday Thru Friday from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 5:00 am to Noon.

Keep in mind that this web site does not claim to be the 'official' rules of Sea Isle City so, again, please check those signs before jumping on those bikes.

Now get out there and enjoy the weather!

Public Restroom Bathroom Locations along Sea Isle City Promenade Beaches

40th Street (Near JFK Blvd) Restroom (small white building)

Sea Isle City, NJ has some really great beaches and some nice amenities, if you know where to find them.  One thing that is important to remember when spending time along the ocean in Sea Isle City, New Jersey is where the public bathrooms are along the beaches.

I must admit, I spend the majority of my time in Sea Isle on the beaches that run along side the Promenade.  The promenade in Sea Isle City is a concrete "boardwalk" that runs along the beach from 29th street to 56th.  If you are wondering which beaches along the promenade in Sea Isle have public restrooms, we'll cover them here.

There are three bathrooms along the promenade that are open to everyone to use. There is one on the promenade at 44th street.  This bathroom shares the same building as the Sea Isle City Beach patrol.

The second public restroom is at 40th street and the promenade. It is very close to JFK boulevard.

31st Street Restroom
The last public restroom along Sea Isle City's   promenade is at 31st street.

I hope that helps you to find the promenade public restrooms along Sea isle City's beaches.

How to Get to Sea Isle City from Philadelphia PA Driving Directions to 08243

Sea Isle City is one of the South Jersey Shore points.  It is a great town to visit and vacation in during the summer.   Some people ask me "How do you get to Sea Isle City?"  and I tell them that driving to Sea Isle city is very easy.

For those of you who want to look up your own directions on MapQuest or GPS, the zip code for Sea Isle City is 08243.

If you are coming from Philadelphia, I can save you the trouble. Here are the basic directions.  There are other ways to drive to Sea Isle. These directions are the most popular so there is more traffic but it is also the most simple and easy remember way to go.

From either I-76 the Schulykill Expressway or I-95  travel to the Walt Whitman Bridge.  I-76 eastbound pretty much takes you straight into the bridge. If you are coming from Delaware take I-95 north, from bucks county take I-95 South.  The Walt Whitman is in Philadelphia
Go across the bridge (no toll in this direction) and stay straight. The road you are on is 42 South

Keep going straight on 42 south and it will be come the Atlantic City Expressway south within a couple miles. Just stay straight, there is no exit or anything.

There is eventually a toll on the AC expressway for a few dollars.

Take the AC Expressway south for about 37 miles until you see signs for the Garden State Parkway way exit 7-S

Take Exit 7-S and stay on the Garden State Parkway (aka GSP) for about 20 miles.  You'll hit a couple of tolls along the way

Then get off at Exit 17 Sea Isle City.

You'll come to the end of the Exit and it will dead end at a road called Sea Isle Blvd (also known as JFK when you get across the bridge into town)

Turn Left on this road and take it about a mile or so, over a bridge and into Sea Isle City, NJ

That should do it. Buckle up and have a safe trip to the shore!

Best Time to Buy A Beach Tag in Sea Isle City SIC New Jersey

The best time to get a beach tag in Sea Isle City New Jersey is two weekends before memorial day weekend at the latest.

Two weekends before Memorial Day Weekend is the last weekend when you can get a discounted Sea Isle City beach tag.

Sea Isle City requires all beach goers to display a beach tag.  Accessways to the beach are staffed by the beach patrol.

The beach patrol in Sea Isle are very friendly especially when compared to other South Jersey shore points, such as Avalon where they are notoriously rude.  Be nice to Sea Isle City beach patrol members when you meet them and be willing to buy a beach tag if you need one.

Beach tags can be purchased in Sea Isle at the beach tag office along JFK boulevard as well as from any beach patrol member. For discounted beach tags that are available up to two weekends prior to Memorial Day weekend, you will generally need to buy at the JFK boulevard office though sometimes they'll randomly set up beach tag sales at other public locations (outside of the Acme on 63rd etc)
Hope that helps!

What Street Should I Rent My House on In Sea Isle City, NJ for Summer Vacation?

There are a lot of considerations to go through when renting a house in Sea Isle City, New Jersey.   It really is a combination of how much walking you will want to do versus driving, as well as what kind of shore lifestyle you prefer.

In general, the most quiet part of town begins around 50th street and gets more quiet the further uptown you go.   The same goes for streets in the low 20's on down.
If you are an inlet lover, staying on streets in the 80's and above will position you close to Townsend Inlet.  A gorgeous, well kept inlet that gets plenty of boat traffic, lots of surf fisherman as well as sunbathers.  The inlet is a protected beach and requires a beach tag.

If you find yourself on the roads in between,  say 28th street to 49th street things will be pretty jumping as this is the main drag of town.  It is the area that is most congested.  The occupants of these homes tend to be the younger, partying type as most of Sea Isle's bars are concentrated in this area.  Homes close to bars means you can walk instead of drive and avoid  a DUI.  This, of course leads to higher level of inebriation, more foot traffic and more noise both on the streets an on the decks.   If you are really into the bar scene, get a home between 28th and 49th.

28th to 49th is also a good spot for people who may not be into the bar scene but prefer to walk short distances (within 5 blocks) of restaurants, sandwich shops, specialty stores etc. as most businesses are concentrated in this area.
Landis Avenue, JFK Boulevard and Central Avenue are the three busiest streets in Sea Isle City.  I think central is the least noisiest of the three in terms of traffic noise but there are still lots of cars to consider.  If you want to avoid a lot of traffic noise as well as limited parking options you'll want to stay away from homes on these streets.

If you love the beach, and who in Sea Isle doesn't, just about any house anywhere will do.  If you stay anywhere in Sea Isle you'll generally be within zero to 5 blocks (and 5 would be unusual) to the beach.  If you must be within 2 to 3 blocks  to the beach I'd suggest staying on blocks that end no further west than Central Avenue, closer to Landis or further east the better.

The most quiet and peaceful part of town is probably 70th street up to within a few blocks of the Inlet (89th st) or thereabout.  Mostly an older, family crowd that really has no problem being 20, 30, 40 blocks from any activity.  Again, along Landis and Central, it will be more noisy simply due to traffic but nearly as loud as along those same streets in town (blocks 29th -49th)

Of course if you like the bay side there are numerous homes along the canals and bay within a few blocks west of Central avenue along most of the Island.    Sounds Ave, Venicean, and the end of most numbered streets that end in the word "place"  such as 43rd place, will generally have homes along water.

As always, check with your realtor or for yourself before committing any hard earned money based on my advice. Check the property in person before signing the lease.  You'll want to be sure you are in the area you hoped for. I'm just giving you this information for starters and hope it helps!  Feel free to comment below or ask questions.

Each section of Sea Isle is wonderful but caters to different personalities.
